Tutu the kitten waits to be adopted at the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society Animal Shelter in Leverett on Tuesday. "We have definitely seen a rise in abandoned animals," shelter worker Ashley Loehn said. "People find their animals to be a financial burden, and those are the hardest [animals to take in]." The shelter is currently offering fee-waived adoption and recently opened a new shelter in Springfield.
